About Bees

Queen Bee

The Queen is the only bee in the colony that lays eggs, maintaining the bee population in the hive. In short, she is the mother of all. She communicates using pheromones to support the function and health of the colony by instructing the worker bees to perform critical and necessary tasks. Therefore, the key to a strong colony is to have a good Queen.

Drone Bee

The Drones are male bees hatched from unfertilized eggs. Drones comprise 15% of the colony and are an essential part of the bee community. While they do not perform daily tasks, their sole purpose is to mate with virgin queens to advance the next generation of honeybees. Drones mate in the air with virgin queens from other colonies to prevent inbreeding and do not breed with their sisters.

Worker Bee

The Worker bees are female and perform all tasks in the colony except egg laying, which belongs to the Queen. The average lifespan of a worker bee is 45 days, and during this time, she will perform each task to advance the colony. Therefore, a substantial colony must have a large number of worker bees in the hive.

Outstanding, honey, eggs, and staff. I don't think we will ever purchase store eggs or honey again, the products really are just that good. The prices are definitely fair, especially with how expensive everything has become. Their little shop is also home to plenty of beeswax candles and nic-nacks which makes it a good stop for lovely gifts. 10/10 service and atmosphere. Only caution I have is the turn in. The shop is on a gravel hill and the initial turn in has a dip to the right which could be troublesome for low profile cars....in other words take the turn carefully. I encourage anyone reading this, when the green open sign is up to stop by, and definitely take home a dozen eggs and a jar of honey. You won't be disappointed!!!

Bought a nuc from them this year and I couldn't be happier! The pick up process was quick and easy and the nuc was sealed well for travel. My 5 frame nuc was full of healthy bees and has done so well I was able to add a 2nd box within 2 weeks and a honey super within 2.5! The queen is an excellent layer and the bees have a nice temperament. I'll be a returning customer for sure! 🐝
